The Clyde River originates in Spectacle Pond, which is located in Brighton. It flows from there through Island Pond from the north end of Island Pond to the west. It proceeds towards Charleston, in a northwesterly direction and falls into Lake Memphremagog in Newport, Vermont.  Part of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, the Clyde River is approximately 25 miles in length and, with the exception of a few miles of rapids near its mouth, is a relatively quiet waterway, passing through in its course, several natural ponds of considerable size. Fishing along the route and in the ponds through which the river passes is known to be outstanding.
